Stepper motors move in exact, countable steps instead of just spinning, which is what makes them the right choice for pointers, dials, small conveyors, camera pan mounts and mini CNC or plotter builds. The 28BYJ-48 is the cheapest honest way to teach that idea, and it ships with the ULN2003 driver board it needs.

Thanks to its 1:64 internal gearbox the motor gives 2048 half-steps per output revolution, so a single step is roughly a fifth of a degree. It runs from a plain 5 V supply, and the four LEDs on the driver board light up in sequence as the coils fire, which makes the stepping pattern visible to students instead of purely theoretical.

Wiring is four Arduino pins plus 5 V and GND, and the built-in Stepper library gets it turning in about ten lines of code. A good classroom follow-on from BO motors and servos.
