About this product

The DJI Tello is the safest way to put a real flying camera drone in a student's hands. It weighs about 80 grams, has prop guards in the box and uses vision positioning to hold a rock-steady hover indoors, so a first flight in a classroom or corridor is genuinely stress-free.

What makes it a teaching tool rather than a toy is the SDK. Beginners fly it from the free Tello app on a phone; older students take over with Scratch blocks, and Class 9 and above can send commands over Wi-Fi from Python - takeoff, flip, move 50 cm forward, read battery level - which turns a drone unit into a proper programming unit.

The 5MP camera streams 720p live video to the phone and records stills and short clips for photography or survey style projects. Expect about 12 minutes of flight per battery; we recommend two or three spare batteries per drone so a full period stays in the air.
