About this product
The NodeMCU ESP8266 is the board that made hobby IoT affordable, and it still is. It is an ESP-12E WiFi module on a breadboard-friendly carrier with a USB port, a voltage regulator, a reset button and pins broken out with clear labels.
For a first internet-connected project it is hard to beat. Eleven digital pins and one analog input are plenty for a temperature logger, a relay-based light switch, a water-level alert or a web page that shows live readings from the school terrace. It programs from the Arduino IDE, MicroPython or the original Lua firmware.
Because it costs a fraction of a full computer, teachers can hand one to every pair of students without worrying about breakage. The CP2102 USB chip is the more reliable of the two commonly used bridges and needs no fiddly driver hunting on recent laptops.
